Review of IntelliScanner Wine Collector 300

I received the Intelliscanner Wine Collector two years ago as a gift and have been using it since that time. It has been a labor of love.

The scanner device works some/most of the time and requires the user to be at the correct spot in the software when the device is connected to read or scan the bottles. The scanner holds UPC codes inside then "dumps" them out when you want to add or consume wines; however, you have to be on the right field in the right window of the software application or you lose all the UPC's you've been storing for the past few days/weeks. To get the database correct, you basically have to re-inventory your wines unless you remember exactly what you drank during that time.

The software application does basic data capture of all pertinent wine fields. It attempts to retrieve information from their web-based database of UPC's, names, varietals is getting better and better.The "publish" featurelets you send your wine data to a personal web site that you can access anywhere - very handy when you want to check out your supply or your rating of a wine while inside a retail store. So here's the bad news. What if you want to print a list of your wine, sorted by location or name and including number of bottles in inventory and your rating of the wine? Software doesn't do it. So, for any report I want I have to download the entire database to Excel and then develop my own report.

Bottom line: it takes a lot of work and patience to make this product useful, but it is fun (at times) to use and generally helps me keep an up-to-date list of my wines.
