Review of Oenophilia Coutale Plus Corkscrew

It took me a while to warm to this waiters corkscrew as I am reasonably adept with a classic waiters corkscrew. The foil cutter works very nicely with a turn of the wrist and the teflon coated corkscrew itself very quickly and easily bores into a cork. This Oenophiliacorkscrew is both sturdily made and very nicely finished and designed.

It differs from a classic corkscrew in that there is a small hook which you need to engage over the bottle lip. You then push down on the handle to open your wine bottle.This process takes a bit of learning and coordination but less so than a classic corkscrew.Overall this is a very nice wine/kitchen gift/gadget which I enjoy using.

This product works great when new.I bought one at a local store and it worked great for a month or two.Then a small piece broke off, so I returned it to the store.The replacement worked great for a month or so as well, then the same piece broke.Also, the foil cutter breaks easily as well.I am giving up and getting a Rabbit corkscrew.The Rabbit lasted for two years before finally giving up.

I saw this product in use at a winery and bought one there (for more money than here) and then ended up buying more for gifts through Amazon.It is great and always impresses everyone who sees it.I made one filed with fall leaves to use as a wine bottle chiller which looked beautiful.My hint if you're going to use it to put a candle in the middle is not to fill it with too much stuff because if you do the light from the candle won't show through.A great gift idea and it sure looks pretty and festive on your dinner table.I'm doing one with cranberries for a holiday party next week.Have fun with this product - you won't be disappointed!

An excellent product for the wine lover who loves to try new wines! Great to keep handy in your bag when eating out at restaurants, and if you save the labels it's easy to find those wines again! There is a trick to using them - you have to leave the label-off on the bottle for a while and rub a hard object over the entire label area to remove air bubbles and make sure it adheres to the label properly (think of applying contact paper to a schoolbook). Pull slowly and from the edges, stopping if it starts to tear - only the top layer of the label will come off (the lower layer of paper from the label stays adhered to the bottle). Save the white backing & reapply it to the label-off after use for easier non-stick storage.

My husband is 70 and has opened many bottles of wine with many types of corkscrews, really. This corkscrew is the best he or I have ever used, and the price is unbeatable! Why? The whole thing is made with lightweight, strong metal. All of the folding parts operate easily (no broken finger nails). the quality of the parts (screw, hinges, knife, lever, and handle) are top notch and the stampings/castings are precisely accurate. The 2-step pull-up method handles difficult corks easily and is very easy to use, even for me, but if you prefer you can use the 1-step.The best part is the action which is totally opposite to standard corkscrews. With the bottle standing on a table, you push down instead of pulling up on the handle, which is an easier action and results in a smooth cork removal with no chance of slopping or spilling the wine if there is a lurch, which sometimes occurs with the pull-up type of corkscrew. This is a really nice wine chiller. Unlike the other person who reviewed this, I have no problem placing it in the freezer. That is exactly where I keep it. But I'm not trying to sell my book.
