After spending a weekend wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley, I decided that I needed a new wine tower to handle the overabundance of bottles that we had purchased(the metal rack on my counter just wasn't cutting it).I settled on this one based on the look of it and the reviews, and I'm definitely not disappointed!I know that others had issues with broken shelves in the box due to shipping, but everything arrived in perfect condition.I laid all of the pieces out and went to work.Even in the smaller space I was working in (I live in a one-bedroom apartment), everything went relatively smoothly and I had it together in about an hour and a half. There were only three minor issues I ran into.First, just like Ikea, the directions don't necessarily do a great job of pointing out the differences between similar pieces.Granted, you can figure it out by really studying the directions and the parts for clues, but it would have been easier if they had just put a label on the part to tell you what it was (they did that to indicate which side should be facing the back).Second, the back panel can be tricky to get set correctly. It has a tendency pop out of the slot it's supposed to go into.Once I tightened everything up though, it was fine.Third, and most annoyingly, the screws for the back panel of the drawer just would not screw in without tremendous effort.I hand tightened everything as best as I could, then gave it a whirl with an electric screwdriver, but I still couldn't get the screws flush with the wood.Thankfully, it still slides in and you can't tell, but I practically took the skin off my palms trying to screw that thing together.
The end result though was beautiful. The tower fits tightly in a corner and really looks very nice, especially once you've hung glasses up top.The lower shelf (above the bottles) is a good spot for some decorations such as bottles or a shorter decanter, and the top is a good spot for a plant or another decoration. The bottles fit nicely into the cubby holes, although they will roll a bit when you first put them in.The drawer gave me a place to put all of the corkscrews and bottle openers that had previously been sitting on my kitchen counter. You can also fit a fair amount of glasses up top, although the middle part of the rack is really only good for narrower glasses, like champagne flutes, as there's not much room to put in larger glasses if the two outer racks are filled.Still, this is an excellent tower for anyone that doesn't have a lot of room and wants to maximize their storage.
