A connoisseur of fine wines or an aficionado of fine stemware I am not, but I can tell you that the quality of these wine glasses is top-notch!- Tyrol Crystal vs. Lead Crystal
By most definitions, "crystal" is simply glass with lead oxide added to it. Thus, the term "lead-free crystal" is really an oxymoron.
"Tyrol Crystal" is decidedly a name used by the Riedel marketing department for product differentiation. The name, along with its designation as being "lead free" will inevitably mislead some consumers into thinking they are getting "lead-free crystal." To clarify, the "Tyrol Crystal" product line from Riedel is nothing more than glass stemware - that way, no one has to sound foolish at a wine tasting party by stating that they just got themselves some "lead-free crystal."
But, seriously, quibbles aside, while these glasses do not have the sparkle of Riedel's Vitis line of true crystal wine glasses, they do have an amazing clarity to them that surpasses that of any non-crystal wine glasses I've seen. I derive as much pleasure from looking at them as I do from drinking from them!

The lip on the Riedel Vivant is made very thin so it doesn't detract from your appreciation of every nuance of the fine wine you imbibe. The large bowl allows the wine plenty of room to aerate as you swirl it around, and the tapered end provides just enough of an opening to direct the resulting aromatic release into your anticipating olfactory receptors.

While The Riedel Vivant line of stemware do not offer the refractive quality and sparkle of crystal stemware to enhance the visual experience of wine tasting, they certainly provide for the perfect delivery of fine wine to titillate the senses for both taste and smell. All in all, the Riedel Vivant is an inexpensive collection for a novice to experiment with wine tasting without sacrificing on the vital aspects of the wine tasting experience.
