Review of Riedel Vinum Port Glasses, Set of 6

I just picked up eight of these (Riedel 416/60) and found them to be the least well made Riedel Vinum glasses I've seen. Four of the eight stems had clearly visible casting lines down into the foot, and you could feel the ridge on all but one or two of the glasses.
I am also not fond of the large logo spelling out RIEDEL on the bottom of the glass.I didn't even like the smaller initials they used to use.I want to think about what I'm drinking; I don't need to be reminded who made the stemware.
Like the other Riedel glasses, the port glasses are extremely well balanced. For a glass so short with such a relatively large bowl, a thick, heavy foot is required for balance compared to the other glasses, which get away with relatively thin and light feet due to the leverage of longer stems and wider feet.Like their prestige cuvee champagne glasses, Riedel's port glasses are heavy, which feels nice in the hand, like good silver.
The Riedel port glasses are the preferred shape for port, and can be used for other port-like drinks such as Banyuls (which is a relatively inexpensive, long-lived, grenache-noir-based fortified wine that's worth seeking out, especially for pairing with chocolate).I also use the port glasses for dessert wines of all kinds. This matches what I see in restaurants worldwide and works well for me, even if Riedel has a series of other recommendations for various dessert wines. Riedel's least expensive line of glassware labels this shape simply as "spirits", so it's not a stretch to put them into service for whisky, cognac, etc.
Like all other heavy lead content crystal (24% here), be very careful washing them.Scratchy sponges, abrasive cleaner, grit in the sink, etc., will leave marks.

Review of 16 Inch Brass Hanging Wine Glass Stemware Storage Rack

Very low grade. Two of them broke from being twisted in they way that they were made. Whoever made these things needs a new form to go by. Do not sit level at all. Cannot line them up square because of the way they are welded together. Crooked!! They were not made good at all. Will not buy again.

Review of Wine Making Equipment Kit with Chianti Ingredient Kit

Okay, so you've never made wine before. You're worried about it.Is it complicated?Doesn't it take a year?

It's easy.It takes a little over a month with these kits.It's not messy.It's fun.

Assuming you can follow simple written directions, you will make over 25 bottles of excellent tasting Chianti red wine with this kit. That's maybe $6 (or less) for your first 25 bottles and that pays for your equipment, so next time it'll even be cheaper.

My wife and I like the Chianti. We have also made the Pinot Noir and the Mesa Luna.I wouldn't hesitate ordering any of Vintner's Reserve kits.

Oh, and to double the fun, use a simple business card program to make your own wine labels. Makes a great gift.My first batch of red wine has a drawing of a policeman arresting a guy and the name: "Dry County Red"

Okay, so you're wondering about where do I get the wine bottles?Obviously you drink wine, so start saving your own wine bottles.Any good restaurant on a Saturday evening will be throwing away 30 or 40 wine bottles, and they will be glad to let you have them.

Once you've made wine in a month or so with these kits, you might want to make your own wine from raw fruit, grapes, honey or whatever, and that wine does take longer, at least three months, sometimes up to a year to age and clear. But this kit can handle that, too.You will need a cheesecloth or nylon mesh bag to hold the fruit in.

Review of The Wine Enthusiast U Chardonnay Wine Tumblers Set of 2

At $10 each, Reidel stemless glasses are a pricey item to be placing in the dishwasher, yet that is the primary advantage of stemless wine glasses! The Wine Enthusast version is thin lead free crystal which feels delicate like a fine wine glass, yet when purchased at 4 at a time is half (or less) than the Reidels.I strongly recommend this glassware. This is not chunky cheap glass as found in the low cost crate and barrel or other low end stemless wine glasses.

Worked for a little over 1 year. Imagine that, the warranty is for 1 year. First the LCD was missing lines at abot 5 months. However kept a good temperature until it just up an quit working. Read other site reviews on this product and they all are consistant, the product lasts about 1 year. Not bad for $50, when it was on sale.

Review of The Original Laser Engraved 14" "Wine Bottle" Pepper Mill in Cherry Wood - Chateau Bordeaux

I have never owned a nice pepper mill.I've always used the red box, and recently a plastic low-quality mill that was a constant battle to use properly.I had enough and wanted a nice mill. But shopping at Amazon.com for pepper mills was a difficult task since there are literally hundreds to choose from. After shopping for a pepper mill for about a month I decided on this mill because of the beautiful wood, and competitive pricing.Alternatively, I did consider a few battery-operated mills. But in the end I preferred the warm inviting look of the natural wood instead of the cold metallic looking mills.I choose the cherry wood over the maple thinking cherry was more durable and would resist dings and scratches from heavy use.Perhaps a better point is the cherry grain was ever so slightly darker than the maple in the pictures. And I preferred the darker grain. After my order, I didn't receive any order tracking information from Amazon.com.I wrote an email to Brentwood Mills, and they responded very quickly. My pepper mill arrived in about a week in good packaging.Let me say in short after having it for a few weeks that I absolutely LOVE this pepper mill. And Brentwood Mills is an A+ company. But let me give you the details. When the mill arrived, I opened and inspected it like anyone would.Unfortunately, there was a very small factory defect - a chip near the bottom inside where the ground pepper exists. It was not visible from the exterior and very, very small. My best guess is the boring bit into the solid piece of wood caused it.I wrote Brentwood Mills back asking them if this is normal or truly a defect. They responded quickly indicating that it was very rare that a mill leaves their factory in less than perfect shape. They mentioned 3 quality checkpoints to ensure high quality control. But of course, they offered to exchange it for me at their cost if it bothered me.I decided to live with it for a week to see.Wood is beautiful even with imperfections. The integrity, beauty, and effectiveness of the mill were A+ despite the minor chip. After a week though, I decided to go ahead and exchange because ultimately Brentwood's QC should have caught this unit. And I didn't think it was unreasonable considering the price range.I wrote Brentwood back to let them know I was returning for an exchange, and they very invitingly assured me they would take care of me.They then emailed me a few days later when they received and sent out a new mill. The replacement mill arrived within a week again well packed.Inspecting the mill showed absolutely no visible defects at all.It was a beautiful example of cherry wood.I filled the mill with peppercorns and proceeded to use it.It is amazing how a high quality mill will churn out the pepper.I tried coarse, and finely ground and both worked extremely well. The grind setting is a small knob on the top that you can manually adjust to your liking. The crank feels very good in my hand, and is just outstanding. Each half-crank of the mill puts out a little less than an eighth of a Teaspoon of pepper in my very unscientific measurement.Once you finish with the mill and set it down, no left over ground pepper leaks out. This seems to indicate a very high quality mill.Certainly a bonus to not have pepper crumbs making a mess.I absolutely love this mill.In fact, my only complaint is from my wife who says I'm putting too much pepper on everything.A very minor annoyance is filling the peppermill with peppercorns.Because the metal spine in the middle of the mill must remain centered it's somewhat difficult to put the corns in and around it.I have a couple of kitchen funnels which made the job a little easier. But it might be nice if Brentwood made a custom funnel to help hold the metal spine in place during the refill. But I think this is a limitation of this type of mill you would find anywhere. In the end I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. The wood is very lovely in my kitchen and on my table. And Brentwood Mills is a great company with A+ customer service.Highly recommend.
